Based in Mauritania, Kinross Tasiast is set to become one of the great gold finds of our generation. It is the first mine in a highly prospective greenstone belt, located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored.Job Description

The MEM Superintendent is accountable to the MEM Manager for the safe, efficient, correct and cost effective maintenance of the hydraulic excavator and shovel fleets  at Kinross Gold – Tasiast Mine.The incumbent will provide leadership, development, and direction to their subordinate staff and relevant contractors to ensure that the business objectives of the Company are achieved consistently through the efficient management of the operation.Job Responsibilities

The duties of this role include but are not limited to:
Fleet Maintenance

  • Plan, implement and undertake defect, breakdown and preventative maintenance programs for:
  • Hydraulic excavators and shovels
  • Support equipment allocated to Shovels
  • Other equipment or activities as requested by the MEM Manager
  • Plan, establish and maintain high standards of machine cleanliness and housekeeping
  • Manage the activities of OEM and other contractors in Load and Drill area
  • Complete all necessary reporting and data collection as required by the MEM Manager

Safety and Training

  • Establish, participate in and maintain active formal and informal workplace inspection programs coveringthe team’s relevant work areas, work locations, rest locations and work shifts – day or night.
  • Actively promote health and safety by setting a good example and encouraging others to follow.
  • Establish, participate in and maintain an active health and safety communication program.
  • Assist the technical training department in the development of a training matrix for all planning personnel and includes a methodology of assessment for each position.
  • Prepare longer-term technical training program to keep all predictive personnel up-to date in technicalupgrades &/or improvements to maintenance / planning techniques.
  • Warehousing and Inventory Stock Levels
  • Work with the MEM Planning group, the Operations group and the Warehouse team to establish spare parts stock levels to maintain agreed fleet KPIs for the Load and Drill fleet.
  • Work with the MEM team and the Warehouse team to establish consumable stock levels for such items aswelding supplies, gases, fasteners, etc.
  • Work procedures
  • Actively promote a process of review work procedures, Safe work instructions and JSEAs to ensurecurrency, relevancy, safety and efficiency.
  • Ensure that the introduction of new processes and equipment is reviewed with Tasiast Safety Coordinators.

Technical:

  • Ensure that OEM and TASIAST equipment maintenance recommendations, schedules, programs andstandards are followed
  • Assist in the implement quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reproducibility of all results.
  • Monitor OEM advice as well as international practices and technology to advise management upon trendsand alternative procedures to adopt in order to optimize equipment performance and effectiveness.

Financial

  • Participate in the preparation of operating and capital budget plans
  • Ensure that operating and capital budget plans are followed to achieve MEM department KPIs.
  • Work with the MEM Contracts Superintendent to prepare contracts and evaluate performance.
  • Coaching and Development
  • Actively support and participate in the Tasiast Mauritanisation Plan
  • Participate in coaching and development of staff
  • Look for potential candidates for grooming and development to various levels within the organisation
  • Aim to ‘Groom Your Own Successor’
  • Project Work and Critical tasks
  • Undertake and allocate project work and Critical Tasks as required by the MEM Manager
     

Education and Experience

Education

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field or, trade certificate equivalent with extensive experience in Heavy Equipment Maintenance.



Experience

  • 5+ years as Superintendent in related maintenance function
  • 5+ years overseas expatriate maintenance experience an advantage.
  • 10+ years previous supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated development through a series of progressively more demanding work roles in mechanicalmaintenance
  • Demonstrated successful experience in working with Expatriate and National teams
  • Proven leadership skills and abilities to develop Expatriate and National teams.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in the administration and coordination of large work teams.
  • Sound understanding of the needs of a large maintenance department
